About the island of Antiparos in Greece

The island of Antiparos is located in the heart of the Cyclades, in the South Aegean, 0.8 nautical miles southwest of Paros. Its port is 4.8 nautical miles from the main port of Parikia in Paros. Formerly Antiparos was united with Paros, while now it is separated from it by the Strait of Antiparos, known as Amfigeio, 500-1000 m wide and 4.5 m deep. The maximum length of the island is 7 miles in a direction from North to South, while its maximum width reaches 2.8 miles and the length of its shores is 57 km.

Antiparos has volcanic rock and dry climate with a lot of humidity, while its morphology is characterized by basically lowland, which favors the development of strong winds, with many small hilly eruptions. The highest peak is Profitis Elias (301 m.) And is covered by cedars and shrubs. To the west the coasts are smooth and sandy and to the east rocky, with small coves. The flowers that thrive in the area are mainly the bougainvilleas that adorn the gardens of houses and shops. The soil is fertile in the plain and the northern lowlands of the island, but the crops are limited. Small quantities of ores used to be mined in now abandoned mines.

Particularly well known in the international community is Despotiko, an uninhabited island southwest of Antiparos where in recent years excavations have been carried out with findings of great archaeological value.
